Growth stages of a puppy

Day 1

Newborn

Day 7

Puppies are doing good.  Their dew claws and tails have been docked and are healing nicely.

The puppies eyes are still tightly closed. At this age the only way that the puppy can go potty is by the mother licking their private parts, so the mother does a lot of tender grooming.

If a puppy at this age is orphaned, and raised by hand, one would need to gently rub the private parts in a circular motion with a warm damp washrag every 2 hours, plus feed milk every 2 hours.

Day 14

At 2 weeks old, the puppy eyes start opening, like little tiny slits.

At this age, a puppy cannot walk, but only squirms and scoots around on his belly, pushing himself with his legs.

Day 21

At 3 weeks old, the puppy begins to put weight on his legs, standing up and taking little quivery steps.  He is still totally dependent on nursing for nourishment and being cleaned and stimulated by his mom to go potty.

Day 28

At 4 weeks old , the puppy is walking around, starting to experiment putting other things in his mouth.  He still does not have any teeth to chew. At this age, they start showing little personality traits.

Day 35

At 5 weeks, the puppy is beginning to play with his litter mates.  Little tiny teeth can be felt under his gums. He is still dependent on mom for milk to drink, but is starting to experiment with soft food items.
